Avalon Beach

A Chic Alternative Destination

Avalon beach is a chic alternative destination , extremely picturesque and full of natural beauty as it lays nestled between the two imposing headlands. It was once a sleepy town but now the secret is out with many die hard locals still trying to keep its natural attraction hidden to the outside world.

Avalon Beach is a great place to take a day trip to if you’re visiting Sydney or live south or west of the city, and it's even better midweek – why? Because most people who live here head into the city to work or do their things which means numbers at the beach will be down as will people in general around the surrounding areas.

Getting there is easy by driving or by bus, simply follow Barrenjoey Rd north from Mona Vale and enjoy the scenery. It’s not quite to the end of the peninsular and some people think that it’s a better place to visit than Palm Beach which is at the end of the road but I like both places.

Things to do around Avalon Beach

If you enjoy riding waves there’s usually good ones to be had at either end of the beach while safe swimming in front of the surf club is an option or the ocean baths at the southern end which affords more protection from the rough crashing waves on the beach.

Take the time to wander through town picking out a good place to eat or have a drink. There’s a variety of culinary dishes on offer with cafes, restaurants and gourmet delis catering to the demand for all things good. You don’t have to go far.

If you enjoy films why not take a movie in at local cinema? Plan the time to watch a movie while you’re at the beach, check the screening schedule at United Cinemas Movies are great fun anytime but there also a good alternative if the weather changes for the worst.

Do you enjoy golf? Then throw the clubs in the boot and play 9 or 18 holes on the Avalon public golf course while you’re here. The course is undulating and the scenery serene and of course there is the cafe or restaurant for a meal if you want a break from the beach.

A little further up the road you can find the Palm Beach markets, usually held on the last Sunday of the month, but check dates to make sure ok. These are a nice addition to any day trip out here.

The Inspiring Northern Peninsular and Pittwater

The views offered over the Pittwater and the Northern Peninsular from the various vantage points amongst the hills and headlands are definitely inspiring that’s why many writers, film-makers, photographers, artists and many surfers take up residence in these leafy suburbs. Often it’s only a glance out the window and the whole intoxicating area is on display.

Whatever the day, whatever the weather if you make plans to visit Avalon Beach I can guarantee you’ll enjoy this wonderful place on Sydney’s northern peninsular, go ahead find out.
