The villages scattered along the highway through the mountains are quite unique, offering a laid back, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. In fact, these towns share a community spirit. I remember when we were children our folks would do the annual Blue Mountains Getaways thing to Blackheath every summer holidays and as kids we would love to swim in the local pool. In winter at the first sign of snow we’d all jump in the car and take off up the mountain to see the brilliant white powder lying around streets and yards everywhere. We would have snow fights with our parents and those memories are still refreshed from time to time. It really is such a magnificient place to be amongst. The natural beauty travels as far as the eye can see and sitting atop the Great Dividing Range surely makes for variety in the blue mountains weather. With balmy summer days that you can enjoy in shorts and t-shirt to the crisp freshness of winter and a new snow ladden morning that provides a playground for the young at heart. ...below is a typical street scene in winter
Throughout the year there are many festivals and events that keep the local communities and volunteers busy and united. One of the best trips we did as a family was to Jenolan Caves, I loved it! The drive in was something to be remembered a lifetime. We stayed the in the Lodge and toured the caves and it was really fascinating to see all those different formations under some spectacular lighting in the caves.
