Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk

A Popular Walking Trail

Bondi to Coogee coastal walk is a real gem! Sooner or later you will want to do the and let me tell you, that it’s better to do it sooner rather than later. Also known as the Eastern Beaches coastal walk, thousands of people end up on this trail each year... in fact even I have done it...

Start your Bondi to Coogee coastal walk at the South end of Bondi Beach where you’ll see the Bondi Iceberg's (swimmer’s) Club, overhanging the ocean baths. They have a terrific clubhouse and many a photo has been taken here.

Along the way the gradient varies with a few inclines and sets of steps but nobody has to go the whole distance, which is about 6km. If you allow 2-3hours or a good half day if you want to do the return journey you’ll discover some really nice things along the way, just like we did.

Once at the other end it’s also a nice thing to do lunch at any of the the finer eating establishments before walking off any excesses on the return trip.

This trail actually goes all the way to Maroubra but unless you’re like ...super fit and want to keep going, we’ll cover that bit later in another post.

Walking the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk is a lot different to other coastal walks. It's really quite urban but it's the smell of ocean salt air that keeps me satisfied. I just love it!

Cruising past Mackenzies Point there is wonderful scenery both north and south, and at Tamarama you might find one of the numerous cafes on the street a nice opportunity to rest a up a bit if you feel inclined to stop for a coffee. If you travel on a little further to Bronte you can have a swim on the beach or in the rock pool.

Walking through Waverly Cemetary, the picturesque scenery is unforgettable, as they say... the views are to die for. Those who reside amongst all the granite and marble here have some of the best coastal views around Sydney. So do some of the home owners along this walking track.

Between Clovelly and Coogee you can discover Gordon’s Bay one of Sydney’s top dive spots. This is a totally unique and interesting area, like a page out of a story book, with small aluminium boats all over the place, you'll quickly learn the fishermen from the local fishos club are real keen and regularly put into the sea to catch whatever they can.

It's sort of reminds me of those paintings you see of the Mediteranean except the boats here are not timber. If scuba diving Sydney is of interest to you then Pro dive Coogee can help you out. They can look after you even if it’s only a little snorkelling you want to do. He Waters and reefs in this area are definitely good for it.

When you get to Coogee try some lunch at one of the Hotels. This seaside village is a haven for backpackers. There’s also great entertainment with Australian and international acts playing regularly at Selena’s in the Coogee Bay Hotel. (you might want to come back and try the night life?) You might even notice the face of change happening here with some trendy cafes and boutiques shops popping up now.

By the time anyone has walked this far a swim is always on the cards and Giles Baths is a nice little rock pool near the entrance to the bay. Head down there from where the white gateway is and you can get a little relief. The pool is reasonably safe for swimming as it’s protected from the rough seas. Alternatively, you could just swim at Coogee Beach, it's safe and patrolled as well.

We're glad you stopped by the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk to check it out :) If you enjoy walking check out Sydney Harbour walking trails there's a few different ones around the foreshores to choose from. Have a great day and remember when you're out there trekking don't forget to...
