Chinese Garden of Friendship Originally, this authentic garden was built to commemorate Australia’s 1988 Bicentenary. It has become an extension of Sydney’s adjacent Chinatown precinct at the southern end of Darling harbour.

The first thing you will notice is that there are no general flowerbeds here and that everything is artfully created, landscaped with a purpose and creating terrific end results. As you wander through here you’ll realize the pathways only exposes immediate portions of gardens as you move along and leaves the rest of the gardens for you to explore discover enjoy! ...wonderful.Initiated by the local Chinese community to share their rich cultural heritage, the Chinese Garden is the result of a close bond of friendship and cooperation between the sister cities of Sydney and Guangzhou in Guangdong Province, China. Chinese landscape architects and gardeners worked tirelessly to produce such a beautiful place to visit within the city and it shows that they really do know what they were doing. Traditional Chinese gardens use four key elements or principals. They are; water, plants, stone and architecture. Put these all together in the right manner and... presto! You have what is called perfect balance.

Chinese garden design dates back thousands of years to approximately the beginning of the first millennium prior to our common era. They were a part of the imperial parks of the Zhang dynasty, although this one is quite a bit smaller in scale.Having artfully derived manicured lawns and specifically featured waterfalls and landscapes make them far different from the typical western style of garden, given the effort to detail. To wander around in here is to go on a journey of exploration as you meander upon the different walkways. Be sure and visit the Tea House for refreshments after taking in such notables as the Dragon Wall and the water pavilion of Lotus fragrance or the Rock Forest. Once inside you might even be tempted to spend some time just relaxing rather than rushing to see everything? If you’re in Sydney make time in your schedule to visit here, you won’t be disappointed.
