Chowder Bay Walk

A Memorable Experience

Chowder Bay Walk is enjoyable and relatively easy to do. A lovely part of Sydney Harbour and only a short distance from Taronga Zoo and Bradley's Head. If you're feeling like walking or exploring a bit of the harbour foreshore why not do the walk from Taronga to Balmoralor may half of it???

Arrive here by car, bus or ferry, the latter being the recommended option if visiting from outside the area. Catch a ferry to Taronga Zoo wharf and keep the harbour on your right.

Be sure and give yourself a good half day if you are wanting to do the return journey (approx 7-8kms), otherwise just do it one way and catch the bus back or have someone meet you.

Chowder Bay is picture perfect and not often viewed by outsiders. Most people usually drive straight through Mosman on their way either in or out of the city but the locals know of this hidden gem on the harbour. So take the opportunity to search this peaceful place out, you won't be disappointed.

This stretch between Bradleys Head and Middle Head is a really neat place to visit, the many trees and shaded areas make it very pleasing to be amongst.

This is where you'll find walking trails amongst native bush and historic fortifications, there's even cafes and a very popular restaurant or two. Come for a walk, go swimming, have a picnic but be sure to enjoy your time here.

Chowder Bay got its name after those who made chowder (thick fishy soup) from the fishing and whaling industry of years gone by, when seafood was in abundance. Now marine life is still in abundance but most people usually view it from a divers perspective.

If you're interested in diving this area or doing a little kayak paddling give the people at Plunge Diving a call on 02 9969 5733 to arrange some hire or visit their website by clicking this link. They take guided tours through this area as well as to other spots within Sydney harbour.

To download a FREE PDF map of the area so as to know how to get there or where it is click here. You might have to zoom in a bit on the bottom right corner and look for Taronga Zoo, then...start planning...

Thanks for visiting, have a great day :) and remember to go...
