Colo Vale Village

On The NSW Southern Highlands

Colo Vale is one of those NSW Southern Highlands towns that almost no one knows about. It’s hidden from thru traffic on the highway by being roughly 5kilometers to the west and to get to it one has to either turn off the highway heading south after Yerrinbool or travel through from Hill Top on Wilson Drive. Either way will bring you here one just faster than the other because of the speed limit.

Only ten minutes from Mittagong and you could be just about anywhere in rural New South Wales without really knowing that your only a relatively short drive from Sydney and a couple of hours from the Nation’s Capital Canberra.

While statistics show a population of about 1200 it’s a reasonably quite village maintaining a relaxed rural atmosphere. The main feature of the town is the refurbished but disused Railway Station and the mixed family businesses. It’s a pleasant place to visit when taking a drive for the day.

The big action happens here on the 4th Saturday of each month with the Colo Vale Community Markets being held in the Community Centre in Railway Avenue. This is when the town’s folk get together for a bit of social interaction otherwise known as a chin wag. All proceeds contribute to the upkeep of the centre and the restored Railway Building which if ever you happen to visit would be very proud of.

Accommodation around Colo Vale

Accommodation is limited and most available lodgings will be in the nearby highland towns of Bowral, Mittagong, and Moss Vale otherwise Picton and Camden to the north.

Things to See and Do around Colo Vale

With minimal attractions in the town itself except for the local village markets it's probably better to visit nearby Bowral or Mittagong where you can discover a variety of galleries, cafes and boutique shops.

There are numerous wineries on the highlands worth visiting and some extremely nice tourist drives with spectacular scenery which make for a great day out espeacially if you happen to find a bar-b-q to spend some time at in the shade of soem big gum trees.
