Manly To Spit Walk

One Of Sydney's Best

The Manly to Spit walk is one of the most stunningly visual walks available around the Sydney foreshore. Everyone should do it at least once in a lifetime!

The Manly to Spit walk or Spit Bridge to Manly walking trail is officially known as the Manly Scenic Walkway and is composed of several adjoining tracks through the ‘burbs’ beaches and headlands. It's about 9-10km in length and will take up to 4hrs to traverse depending on what you do along the way.

This walking track is relatively easy going if however, you find yourself wondering where the trail might be just retrace your steps a bit until you pick it back up again.

There’s plenty of opportunity to have a swim along the way here... so take you swimmers or wear your boardies... and don’t forget to slip slop slap for some sun protection and take some drinking water too because you don’t want to end up dehydrated, do you?

Start At The Ferry Terminal

Simply start this amazing walk at the ferry terminal and grab a brochure or download it here, it will display points of interest along the way.

Head westward around the shoreline to discover beautiful beaches and headlands that only Sydney can produce...

Follow the shoreline eastward from Manly to Fairlight beach, north harbour and off to Forty Baskets beach (don’t ask...) from there to Castle Rock there is a couple of ways to go, you can take your pick and then on to Clontarf beach where there is safe protected swimming.

From Clontarf beach, through Sandy bay, Fishermans Bay to the Spit bridge. Along the way you’ll encounter unforgettable, stunning scenery, the odd nudist beach or two as well as real estate and marine craft that most people only dream about.

Most of this trail is within the Sydney harbour National Park and along the way you’ll discover illustrated plaques with relevant information about the native flora and fauna, most of which are “protected species” so you’re not allowed to pick them or take cuttings ok?

Look For Rock Carvings Along The Way

Along this trail you may even discover some aboriginal rock drawings and carvings, they aren’t sign posted (that's to keep them protected!) so you might have to ask someone along the way. If you’re privileged to view these remember to take only photos and leave only footprints.

Be aware of bushfire dangers in the summer and check before you go by phoning the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Services on 1300 361 967 or by checking their website here.

Once you reach the Spit you can stop and enjoy some time there with refreshments, have a little picnic or just catch a bus or taxi off to where ever you choose next. Alternatively you can do this walk from the Spit to Manly but to get the most from this special foreshore walk you will certainly need to go...
