This is a time for hip swinging, pelvic thrusting dance and music. The five day festival provides more than 120 individual events. Cooke park comes alive over the weekend with markets and non stop entertainment on the main stage. What a great place to be. Every October long weekend the country music festival is held out here. There is always a line up of great talent, with plenty of street busking and professional gigs to be entertained by. Theres free club shows and concerts in the park. I dont exactly know what the line up is for this year but be assured there will be some very good acts. People like John Williamson pictured here make the effort to come anyway even if there not playing. So come along and enjoy!
There are other attractions around the town that are extremely popular, Craft Corner down on Dalton St is just one of them. Pop in and check out their wares, you'll be pleasantly surprised. They provide all sorts of locally produced hand made arts and crafts as well as jewelery and knitwear.There is the Antique Museum at the Henry Parkes centre which features a large range of early tractors, harvesters and other agricultural things. Just a short distance away at Peak Hill you can see open cut gold mining techniques or you might like to try something totally different altogether.
If you like to get back to nature then you probably need to take a trip to Goobang National Park around 30kms to the north. Take a hike through the Park and find your way to Caloma Trig for some great views over the surrounding countryside.
Keep in mind that biodiversity is vital in supporting life on earth and provides many benefits, not the least of these is clean air and food.
