Shellharbour AttractionsVisiting Lake Illawarra for some fishing or a boat ride is always a good option but then so is snorkelling at Bushranger’s Bay on the Bass Point Reserve, what a delight of marine life awaits you there. Safe swimming in the rock pools and beach barb-b’s or enjoy some fish and chips in Little Park overlooking the historical harbour. For those wet days try the Greater Union Cinemas at Shellharbour City (check session times yeah?) or do some window shopping at Stocklands. The Illawarra regional Airport at Albion Park is only ten minutes drive and from there you can take off in a helicopter or light plane for a tour of the coastline. Illawarra Light Rail Museum is also at Albion Park and just over the hill to the south is Jamberoo Recreational Park – “where you control the action”
Cafes and galleries dot the landscape here and there and you can find the local markets being held on the 2nd Sunday of the month with Kiama seaside markets on the 3rd Sunday, Jamberoo arts and crafts markets on the last Sunday of the month and Windang school markets on every Saturday from 6am – 2pm. The most popular of attractions of late is the Illawarra Fly Tree top Walk which is simply awe inspiring. The Fly is a 1500meter walk 20– 30 meters above the ground amongst the rainforest on top of the Illawarra escarpment makes for an extremely memorable experience. It offers an exclusive opportunity to learn about flora, fauna and conservation while providing breathtaking panoramas to photograph.
