The Royal National Park spills out onto this small village as well as Helensburgh and Otford, this reclusive suburb is less than an hour’s drive from the centre of Sydney. Often buffeted by cool sea breezes in summer and blanketed by cloudy mist under cooler circumstances, Stanwell Park beach below is frequented by many on their Sydney to Wollongong day trips

Bald hill is gateway to the Illawarra and the northern suburbs of Coalcliff, Scarborough and Austinmer, this famous stretch of the Wollongong coast is exceptionally well documented in photographs and television commercials.

Things of Interest around Stanwell Tops and Stanwell Park

There are many things to do and see as well as places of interest to visit. If you love nature there are walks on the hillside and walk through the Royal National Park to some of the beaches below the escarpment. Taking time out to watch the hang gliders and paragliders fly at Bald Hill is worth it every day of the week. Horse riding is available in nearby Otford and Darkes Forest for animal lovers and of course surfing and swimming on any of the patrolled beaches south towards Bulli.

If you like adventure there are Harley Rides on the Grand Pacific Drive, tandem sky diving or tandem hang gliding. Enjoying the marvellous views from any of the many lookouts perched on top the escarpment is worthwhile. Lookouts in the region include Bulli and Sublime Point lookouts, while further south there are Mount Keira and Mount Kembla lookouts.

There are also numerous cafes, gift and craft shops as well as antique shops and bands playing at local hotels on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. You might even visit somewhere like the Scarborough Hotel at Scarborough or Headlands Hotel at Austinmer to spend some time enjoying a drink and a meal.
