Sydney Scenic Day Trips
by Interested
To whom it may concern:
Years ago, I did a day train trip out of Sydney. It must be near 38 years ago! We followed the coast and it was advertised as a scenic journey. I have an idea you could see Port Kembla in the distance?
I have quite an elderly friend coming over from the U.K. and I think she would like a train trip going to a destination, staying for lunch and then returning to Sydney.
Any ideas - Not so keen on a mountain trip!

Thanks for your interest Interested,
Sounds to me like you are thinking of the Illawarra/South Coast Train Trip to Wollongong. It has a bit of elevated coastal scenery along the line from Stanwell Tops/Stanwell Park in the north down to around Thirroul then it blends back into the villages.
Simply hop on the Illawarra/SouthCoast train and enjoy the ride to the "Gong" it takes about 90minutes or a bit less if you catch the express.
Once in Wollongong you could walk, bus or taxi the 1-2kilomters from the train station down to the bottom of town by the beach and grab some lunch at any number of places along Crown Street where you might find a place to view the magic of Port Kempla once again.
Of course the best place to enjoy the views while in Wollongong are on Flagstaff Hill where the Lighthouse is at the harbour. From there you will be able to see almost everything.
Hope that helps.
